A Technical Job is Not All about Being Technical

The tech job market is tough and will continue to be so. Technological changes are a major cause of worker displacement, and changes in technology affect those in tech jobs faster than those in other fields. No other era has seen such quantum leaps in paradigm-shifting technology in such short periods of time.

The technical knowledge you have in the morning may be obsolete by evening.

In our information-based era, new technology is blossoming and fading faster than ever. The latest cars have more computerization than the Apollo 13 spacecraft, and the job of an auto mechanic can scarcely be termed low-tech any longer. In the manufacturing sector, jobs and processes have already shifted to countries where there is cheaper labor. In the knowledge sector, jobs that can be handled remotely have already become remote. Amidst the fast-paced environment of the job market, relying simply on your technological skills to carry you through is no longer an effective career strategy. Continually updating your skill sets and developing other skills beyond your arsenal of technical abilities are essential today for a successful tech career.

The techie who keeps his or her job is a survivor first and a techie second.

The best worker is never laid off from his or her job. Corporations go to great lengths, including offering training programs, to retain valuable talent in technological jobs.. However, when your present technological skills are not adequate to cope with new technology in the field, your employer's decision to retain you will not depend on your technological skills. Your employer has to view you as something more than a simple techie, and it is up to you to make him or her see that. When employers are sure of the adaptive and results-oriented nature of an individual employee, his or her name is never going to be on the list of possible layoffs when there is an impending change in the work environment.

Increase your value to your employer.

Work the in-house network. Don't just be the guy who's referred to for specific technical problems. Be identified as a person who speaks the language of management.

Make connections with senior-level managers. Without connecting with senior staff members, you will never come to know the unwritten rules within a company and the industry. The knowledge and information you gain from senior staff will help you make better on-the-job decisions.

Honor the time of superiors and your commitments. Failing to keep commitments and wasting the time of senior-level staff and superiors is one of the easiest ways to lose credibility. On the other hand, honoring their time and your commitments builds the credibility you need to stay and progress in your career. Rather than looking for what someone can do for you, look for what you can do for someone else.

Volunteer for projects that others are not ready to accept. More often than not, the manager who makes the assignment knows which project most employees will try to avoid. Your willingness to take the risk and help out will stand you in good stead.

Volunteer for projects that span departments. Accomplishments related to projects that span different departments help to build your professional reputation.

Focus on accomplishments. Problems at work are often generic across companies and industries. Today, more emphasis is given to accomplishments on the job than to time spent in the job. Exhibiting effectiveness in generic areas increases your value both to your current and prospective employers.

Ask for informal evaluations from senior staff members and management. Having an informal conversation with your manager about your work saves you from unpleasant surprises. Open channels of communication reduce misunderstandings and misjudgments.

Don't be afraid to blow your own horn. Being modest about your accomplishments is not going to serve you well. Do not be arrogant, but make sure everybody concerned is aware of your bottom-line contributions to the company.

Take every opportunity to cross train. Select an area of interest like marketing or sales within your company and cross train yourself.

Remain alert and develop yourself.

Never be complacent. Complacency leads to inactivity, arrogance, and loss of sharpness.

Keep yourself ready for the eventuality of a job loss. Read the changes in the wind and be prepared to respond efficiently when they affect you adversely. Keep looking for better opportunities all the time. Remember, it is always easier to negotiate with a prospective employer while employed than it is to negotiate as an unemployed worker.

Identify other opportunities. Do not ignore career options that are far from the beaten track. Continually assess how your skills can fit into another position or another industry. Try to identify opportunities outside your sphere of familiarity.

Be prepared to reorient your career objectives according to the market situation. Don't be inflexible. If situations demand that you leave your comfort zone, do so, and don't rule out relocation or a pay cut when there are better future prospects.

Never stop learning. Take advantage of all company offers of training seminars or tuition reimbursement. A lot of people suddenly put a stop to their learning mode after finishing their schooling. Do not end your education with your degree.

Above all else, be confident that you can always find work. That's the manual for job survival.

How To Easily Tap Into Your Subconscious Mind Power

The subconscious mind is the source of emotion as well as the depository of memories. The conscious mind is the command center of the will as well as the facility of receptiveness. The subconscious mind is utterly submissive to the conscious mind. The conscious mind is the leads, loves and protects while the subconscious follows, respects and trusts. Therefore, the subconscious mind is the assistant of the conscious mind.

When the conscious and subconscious minds are in harmony, the entire mind is whole in its functioning. A fully functioning whole mind is productive, creative and healthy in its endeavors. However, when the harmony is unbalanced within the two minds it dysfunctions and consequently there is a destructive collapse.

Personal reality is created by the beliefs of the subconscious mind. While the conscious mind transmits, a thought into the subconscious mind to create a belief that is then manifested into reality.

When you consciously assume that something is true, your subconscious mind accepts it as truth. When the subconscious mind believes something to be true it goes about drawing the conditions needed to indeed make it truth.

The power of the subconscious mind is stimulated or tarnished in accord to the thoughts of the conscious mind. If the conscious mind distinguishes prosperity, the subconscious mind produces prosperity. The reverse can also be stated concerning the aspects of the conscious and subconscious mind.

How and what you think about yourself dominates your outcome of events. That is to say, the energy you put into thought returns to you in a like way, if the energy that you project to the universe is positive, by nature positive is returned to you.

Recognize the essential value of consciously choosing the thoughts you maintain each day. Keep your thoughts and actions focused on what you really want to create in your life reality, for thoughts as well as actions are indeed living energy.

You can tap into power of your subconscious mind by acknowledging quanta energy. Quanta are a plural form of Quantum. Quantum physics is a study of the universe's building blocks, or the frame of its structure. In the world of quantum physics, every single particle, which are considered quanta, is a form of concentrated energy. All the particles of energy are basically the same type of associated particles.

The difference is found in the way which particles are together grouped into even larger frame structures. Learning how they operate is key in understanding how to create yourself and the world around you. The secret is that your recurring emotions and thoughts can and will revise your life's path. The process of creating your reality by the use of both the conscious and subconscious mind is called manifestation.

So basically, you own thoughts manifest themselves into your own reality. How you make use of this information of bringing about a change of reality determines the results, whether they are positive or negative.

When you take time out to create the life or reality you want to draw to you, you are in fact influencing the Quantum Field. As energy is attracted to its own like energy, and the associated energy produces a physical effect.

Your emotional state is a central influence of your physical state. Your reality is fundamental to your choice of thoughts and intentions. You must take charge of your thoughts to take charge of your reality, as the outside and inside are reflections of each other.

Changing the negative things you think by replacing them with positive thoughts gives you the power to tap into your subconscious mind power. Once you have taken positive charge of your circumstances, everything positive will follow suit. Remember like attracts like.

Once you have taken charge of your subconscious thoughts and beliefs, you are able to draw to you the things you seek by putting the law of attraction to work.

When you choose what you wish to perceive, that which you choose to perceive should be chosen with conviction and single-mindedness, this will cause the quantum field of energy to manifest over time the reality that you seek, and it all depends upon your clarity of focus and confidence that your reality will be manifested.

It takes an intense desire to cause reality to change, all that is needed is knowing the possibility of manifestation can be accomplished with a change of attitude and intentions, putting effort into creating your day, your reality causes quanta energy to arrange the things you truly wish for to come to you.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - The Secret of Successful Delegation

The rewards of being able to work co-operatively with other people can be considerable - personal satisfaction, financial gain, achievement of goals beyond the capabilities of you by yourself... However there is one very important step you need to take before you will be successful in working with other people.

The key to true success in working with other people, of achieving what Stephen Covey describes as Interdependence in "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" is to first achieve mastery of yourself. To quote another saying from the world of management "you can't manage other people until you learn to manage yourself"

There are a number of reasons why you need to first master yourself before you can be truly successful in working with others.

You can't talk yourself out of problems you behave your way into

If you have not mastered your impulses and desires and made them congruent with your life goals and purpose, you will be a person who "says one thing and does another".

You may learn how to say the right things - there are plenty of good books, seminars, videos etc. that can help you to learn the "right way to behave" in any given circumstances. However your actions are controlled by the sum total of all your thoughts - both the conscious effort to control your behaviour and the unconscious results of your deeper impulses and desires.

The people you meet and co-operate with on a regular basis may well be impressed by your words to start with, but they will pick up on the contradictions between your words and your actions quite quickly. As a consequence you will find it hard to build relationships of genuine trust and respect.

You have to like yourself before you can like other people

...or they can like you. Another way to look at this is to say that you need to have a good self esteem to be able to deal successfully with other people.

If you have a low self esteem, you may believe that you cannot make good quality decisions and therefore you will find it difficult to contribute in any circumstances where other people are involved. You may also believe that you are not worthy of happiness or fulfillment which will lead you to too easily accept the loosing side of any outcome in any situation.

Leading an unfulfilled life will make you more inclined to feel cheated by life and by other people and they will pick up on your feelings through your words and behaviors.

Before you can successfully work with others and become a leader, you first need to mastery yourself. The more you want to be successful in working with other people, the more you need to work on your integrity, your self esteem and your mastery of yourself.

Do you want to find out more about the 7 habits of highly effective people ?

Achieving Your Goals- Keep Your Willpower Strong

Is lack of willpower a sign of weakness, or is it your subconscious protecting you from being outside of your comfort zone? A strong willpower is needed to accomplish any challenging task in life. If something wasn't a challenge, we wouldn't struggle to obtain it.

You can draw a strong willpower out of yourself if you are focused on your desired outcome. Starting something that is a challenge, such as losing weight or becoming more of a social person, shouldn't be taken lightly. Without focus, you'll more than likely fall short of achieving your goals.

Being comfortable with yourself and being fearful of change are two different ideas on each end of the spectrum. Most people are afraid of stepping outside of their comfort zone, and therefore, they never experience the things they want to experience in life. You can overcome that fear and accomplish anything in life - you just need to know where and how to begin.

Having a clear-cut goal in mind is essential if you plan on achieving success. If you want to lose weight, you need to know how much you want to lose and why you want to lose it. If you are a shy person and want to be more social, you need to know what the end result will be when you accomplish that goal. It may take a few minutes or a few days to fully understand how you expect your life to be when you do get to where your going.

Willpower can come and go; it's up to you to keep it going strong, and there's a few ways to do this. First, you need to always remember why it is you're changing whatever aspect of your life that you're changing. Keep it on an index card, paste it on your computer, repeat it to yourself in the mirror everyday, whatever you need to do to keep it in the front of your mind.

Second, you can take some time everyday to visualize what your life will be like when you accomplish your goals. Really go into detail; picture how you'll act, how you'll feel, how you will influence those around you. The best time to visualize your success is right before you go to bed and right before you get out of bed in the morning.

If you find yourself wavering throughout the day, you should have a visual cue handy that will instantly remind you of your goal. It might be a picture of a swimsuit you want to buy when you lose 20 pounds, or it may be a picture of a large crowd of people who are waiting to hear your next public speech. Don't be caught off guard - your weaknesses can show up at any time to throw you off track.

So how do you know when you've accomplished your goals? If you've been consistently working towards them, whatever you've been doing will become a habit in your daily life. When you start working diligently towards other goals on your list, you'll know you've already accomplished what you set out to do.

If you have things you want to do in life, get ready to step out of your comfort zone. Don't let your weaknesses hold you back - you can do anything you set your mind to.

Get A Job

More than one million college grads hit the job market this spring, and their prospects of finding a decent job have improved, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Hot job categories are accounting, business administration, computer science and electrical and mechanical engineering. Hot markets are Las Vegas, Phoenix, Washington, DC and Raleigh.

But what if you aren't in one of the hot job categories or markets? You better have some other intangibles to fall back on.

CollegeGrad.com has surveyed employers to find out what skills they seek. The survey says, "top skills include excellent communication skills, problem solving capabilities, initiative, flexibility, and enthusiasm about the company."

Thirty-seven percent of employers say a student's major is the most important criteria, followed by interviewing skills at 25 percent. Interviewing skills translates to the ability to clearly and effectively communicate.

A study participant says employers look for soft skills that will complement the degree. According to participant Steven Jungman of ChaseSource, "While some positions we recruit for require specialized degrees in Information Technology or Engineering, when we interview Business and Liberal Arts graduates, we identify social traits and other soft skills in candidates who meet or exceed the already set forth qualifications."

A study from the 21st Century Literacy Summit says "both researchers and the business community agree: effective communication skills are essential for success in today's knowledge society."

If you want to give your recent college grad a leg up, make sure they have solid communication skills. That's the secret to success in any field and in any life endeavor.

Leadership: The Art Of Artfully Reducing Stress In Your Workers

Real leadership is about the ability to lead.

You need to know where you want to go and make sure that you are being followed.

One important parameter is forgotten. A leader has to be aware of his team's ability to follow. Can all your team members do this? Can they follow you?

Leadership is not only about your ability to lead.

It is also about your ability to identify those who can follow.

More importantly to identify those who cannot.

Can all his members cope? Can they function under pressure?

20% of the population is going to develop anxiety or depressive states. This does not happen overnight. Members of this population exhibit 'poor coping styles'. They are driven, rigid and not happy. They may seem to be conscientious and even an asset. But if you could do something, don't you think that you should?

What can you do?

I have built a free, non-commercial Online Self-Help site. myRay [http://www.myRay.com] is easy effective and improves quality of life and coping styles. myRay is designed for people who are prone to depression and anxiety and yet are still functioning relatively well.

myRay [http://www.myRay.com ] can be recommended with discretion and without fear of insulting anyone.

I hope that this is food for thought.

I want to stress that myRay [http://www.myRay.com ] is free. The user is free to use it as often and for as long as he wishes.

Personal Motivation - Look Back With Pride

Making positive changes in your life can be a lonely business. When we change, the people around us are not always happy for us. Often they fear that because we are seeing the world differently we may now see them differently, no matter how much we reassure them. Their negativity can eat away at our motivation and begin to erode our determination to stick to our goals.

One way to keep up the momentum is to look back with pride at what you have achieved so far. Next time you find the dream destroyers nipping at your heels, try these three motivation boosters.

Booster #1 - Remember where you started. When you began your goal plan, you should have made a note of where you were at the beginning. If you didn't, don't worry, I'm sure you can easily remember. Let's say your goal was to reach a certain level of fitness or to give up a bad habit, like smoking.

At the beginning you were perhaps gasping for breath after walking up a few flights of stairs, or you were getting through a pack of cigarettes a day. Now that you have made some progress, take a moment to remember how you felt at the beginning; how uncomfortable it was to be short of breath; how you disliked yourself for your heavy nicotine habit. Do you feel the same way now? Of course not.

Booster #2 - Compare the old you to the new you. Even if you have only moved a short way down the road to your goal, it is important to appreciate what you have so far achieved. You might not be fully fit, but how many times have you been to the gym since you began? How much easier are the stairs now? How far can you run? How many fewer cigarettes do you smoke a day, if you are cutting down, or how much less are you craving a drag, if you have given up completely.

Take careful stock of what you have done so far and try to quantify it in numbers. Write down every improvement you can think of in your progress journal.

Booster #3 - Finally, take time to celebrate your success. Look at your list of achievements and give yourself congratulations. Simply by taking action you are one of a tiny handful of people who have the courage to make a positive change in their lives and do something to improve themselves. Be proud of what you have done, what you are doing and what you will do very soon.

Give yourself a small reward, by doing something you enjoy or buying yourself a small gift. You deserve it and no matter what anyone else says, you have come a long way.

Truck Driving - A Career With Some Freedom

Some people can not stand the thought of working in an office or working somewhere where they have a boss constantly looking over their shoulder to make sure they are working. For these types of people the best kind of job or career field would be one where they have some freedom. One such career is that of a long haul truck driver. Truck drivers get to travel the open roads seeing the country with no one constantly looking over their shoulder.

Truck drivers do have dispatchers who make sure they are going to deliver their load on time so it is not 100% freedom, but not many jobs have that, unless you are the boss and have no one to report to.

Along with the freedom on the open roads, truck drivers (in general) will always have job security in that their job is one that can never be outsourced to some other country. Someone will always have to deliver food and products to stores and supplies to companies otherwise the economy would just stop.

Starting a career as a truck driver does not take that long. In fact, some truck driver training programs can be completed in just a few weeks, while others may only take a couple of months. As drivers are in demand finding a job should not be that difficult.

Drivers can earn pretty good money and they don't even need a college degree. Long haul truck drivers usually start earning in the mid thirty thousand dollar a year range with experienced drivers potentially earning considerably more money. Long haul drivers usually get paid by the mile. The amount they earn per mile is usually based on factors such as a driver's experience and the type of load they are hauling. Their safety record may also be a factor with some companies.

If you are searching for a career with some freedom, maybe you should consider a truck driving career! This is one career you can enter fairly quickly by completing your truck driver training from a school in just weeks.

The Best Investment: Investment Begins Inside Not Out

Here I am at 37 years of age starting my life over again.

After my divorce, I was left in a world of debt. The divorce officially ended in 2002, but it took three years until I realized that I could no longer manage the debt. In 2005, I filed chapter 7. It was a hard decision for me, but I heard God whisper in my ear "If Trump can do it, so can you."

In that same year I lost both my job and my apartment. Nevertheless, I managed to maintain a profound peace throughout all of this. Why? I had learned to really trust God throughout all of this struggle and turmoil.

I left the Midwest and moved back home to New Jersey; a place where it seemed to me that the people were selfish, inconsiderate and fake. I looked at the people (church, family and friends) I left behind five years ago and realized that nothing had changed, that is, except for me. And, I realized that what needed to change was not my environment, but me. I knew that regardless of what I thought, I had to trust and believe that Jesus will see me through.

In February of 2006, I landed a temporary position with an attorney, whose office technology was so far behind I dubbed him "Mr. Flintstone". After five months working to bring his office halfway into the 21st century, I was told my services were no longer needed. I was abruptly let go on Thursday, June 15th.

On Friday, June 16th the attorney had an arbitration case that he was able to settle for a quarter of a million dollars! The attorney realized that the animated medical illustration that I provided for him was the main factor that aided in the adversary wanting to settle the case. In fact, the opposing side, as well as the arbitrator, was so impressed with the illustration that everyone asked where he got it from. All the attorney could say was a staff member researched and found it for him.

The medical assistant in the office told the attorney that "All Tabitha was trying to do was to bring your office up to date with technology." It was at that moment the attorney called me so that we can meet for lunch and gave me two hundred dollars as his way of appeasing his conscious. I was pissed. It was at this turning point in my life that I was angry enough to go into business for myself. I said to myself, "If my skills can help someone else's bottom line then why in the world I can't do it for myself!"

It was then I started tapping into my childhood dreams, which was performing arts and writing. So in October and December of 2006 after saving up some money (through temp assignments) and doing extensive research on production companies and the self-publishing market ForEver Word International and Vinson Publishing were born respectively. Taking my passion for dance, which I have done in churches on the East coast and Midwest, holding seminars and telling short stories, I took my two passions and started two businesses.

My first book Check Your Keys is slated to make its debut winter of 2007.

Regardless of the challenges faced I am sticking with my mantra...

I AM MY OWN BEST INVESTMENT!
